Raw Material

This is from the same place on the steps of the Matheson Courthouse where I took the last photo, turning to the South. I like this, and would just like to crop in and come a little close to the mountains. I think it would be great reference material for a painting.

Sky Watch: Red Mailbox

I painted my mailbox red yesterday, and my 5 year old went out to take  a photo of it. I think he did a smashing job! I think this is one of my all time favorite photos.

Sky Watch: Sunrise Symphony

It just seems surreal, like modern art.

There are hundreds more sharing in Sky Watch. To see more go here.

A little more

This is the same sunrise, looking North East along the Wasatch range. It shows my favorite sky color combination. I love it when the sky is pale turquoise and the clouds are a peachy orange.

Sky Watch: Mt. Timpanogos silhouetted at Sunrise.

My ten year old son came running into the room the other day, very excited, to call my attention to the color of the sky. My children know me well. He said, "Mom, don't you want to take some pictures?" And of course, I did want to capture what I saw. It was a gorgeous sunrise. I especially liked this shot because some of the sky is as dark as that silhouetted mountain.

Lone Peak in the Early Evening.

When I saw the mountains this evening, I scurried out to try to catch what will probably the last of the snow-covered shots of the year. I love how the light at this time of day shadows the canyons and reveals the terrain so much.

Sky Watch: Mt. Timpanogos at Sunset.

I've been trying to get a shot like this for twenty years. I still hope for a better one. I'd like to get the whole mountain at Sunrise or Sunset in the winter when it is covered with snow like this. I find it unbelievably beautiful and inspiring.

Y Mountain.

Y Mountain is directly East of Brigham Young University. If you look carefully, you can see the white block letter Y in the lower right of the photo. It is a bit camouflaged by the snow but it is there.

The Bell Tower.

This is one of the landmarks on campus. From time to time, there will be a Bell Tower concert. It seems to me that there was a chime from the tower on the hour as well.

Squaw Peak

This peak is a well-known lookout near my Alma Mater. I will be posting a few more photos of the mountains surrounding Brigham Young University in the coming days. The Mountains are quite high behind this peak, however the are obscured by the clouds: A storm had just passed.

Sky Watch: A little bit of Light.

I found these bits of light fascinating. Happy Sky Watch!

Just Sky.

At the moment we are experiencing an inversion in the valley. A sky like this is something I look forward to seeing again.

Trees without leaves.

I love the shapes of these branches against the sky. They are very sculptural and lovely.

Sunlight and Shadow.

What surprises me about this one is that as bright as the sun is and as big as the mountain is, the mountain is still completely in shadow.

Sparkle

I loved the way the sunlight was reflecting off the snow in my backyard. When it first fell, it nearly covered the three steps coming up to the back door.

Not Spring Yet.

This is a shot of an empty building lot. The snow has been undisturbed and is starting to give way to the weeds again.

Terra & Ceu

The mountains, clouds and sky were so lovely. The blue was such a bright blue and the sun peeking around the clouds gave the whole scene so much excitement. I can't help but run for my camera on mornings like this.

Finally, I'm back.

This is what my world looks like today. I have a few other photos of the gorgeous skies that greeted me this morning, which I will post through the week.
